April has been a whirlwind of a month! I can't believe it is May already and summer is just around the corner. April's been a crazy busy month for writing. I took part in Camp NaNoWriMo this month and, forgive me for not being humble, I kinda kicked butt.
I originally set a goal for myself of 20, 000 words and had planned on only writing a revised ending for my 2013 NaNoWriMo manuscript. However, I realized very quickly that I really need to revamp a lot of it. My transitions sucked or were non-existent. I had key plot points written but very little that developed characters or relationships. There was a lot of work to do on it and I wanted to tackle it.
I ended up raising my word count because I wasn't working with 100% new material. I more than doubled my goal to 50, 000 words (standard NaNoWriMo goal) and met my new goal. I even managed to cross that finish line several days ahead of the deadline.
Trouble is, I am only about halfway through my key beats. I love, love, love what I have written thus far and I am really fleshing out a lot of the characters and plot points, but I'm also generating a lot of new material in order to do this- which has the editor in me twitching nervously.
The other issue I have run into is that once I hit my goal my motivation dropped off, like instantly. I've taken a few days off writing but I know I have to get back to it or else its just going to end up incomplete for another year (might use July Camp to edit if I can get it done by then!).
I also learned this month that I can not do a NaNoWriMo event and keep up with regular scheduled blog posts. I thought I could but I just couldn't. I spent every spare moment I had writing my manuscript and had little time left to give to other projects- even if I had had the brain power left to do so.
As for my goals for April as per my March in Review :
seek out new artist if necessary, for graphic novel.
-Maintain blog schedule(s)
-submit 2 pieces to Step On Mag
-Complete novel (Camp NaNoWriMo)
Yeah- I didn't do any of those things. However, there has been a lot of things going on behind the scenes that are big, fun, and not necessarily pertaining to writing.
Things I Did Accomplish in April:
1. I watched the Season 1 Part 1 of Outlander twice.
2. Reread Outlander.
3. Read 4 or 5 romance novels.
4. Wrote 61, 452 words for my manuscript- whhhhaaaat!
5. Come to some hard decisions about the future and have started putting things in motion- more to come on this at a later date (Hint: It may involve moving).
6. Planned a trip to NYC.
Coming Up In May
1. Continue to work on manuscript. I'd like to be at 80,000 words by the end of the month. I'm aiming for 125,000 words in total and to be ready for a solid round of edits in July.
2. Go to NYC!
3. Continue to research and attend information sessions pertaining to new adventures!
4. Resume regular-ish blog posts
5. Edit test podcast
I can't wait to tell you guys about possible upcoming plans, but as things are still in a tentative space and I'm not a hundred percent on time lines. I don't want to give too much away in case something happens to change.
